Wine and Design – America Dreaming

“Enjoy a Night Out While Uncorking Your Creativity!”

This is what you first see when you go the to website for Wine and Design of the Triad.  Wine and Design is a franchise for a concept known as “painting parties” while sipping wine.  It was started by Emily Preiss and Harriet Edwards Mills in Raleigh in 2010.  The thought behind this is that people love to have an excuse to get together and have fun.  Since wine has always done that, this party concept takes it to another level and adds painting.  And not just any kind of painting.  The evening is led by an artist who takes the time to tell you how to make your brush strokes, how to mix colors and how to create.  It makes for a fun evening out!!!

Wine and Design of The Triad was started in May, 2011 in Jamestown,NC by Jenny Ragsdale.  Jenny was a stay-at-home Mom who was looking for a job or an opportunity that would allow her to continue to spend time with her children or bring her children with her to work if she needed to.  She found Wine and Design in Raleigh and started talking to them in January, 2011 and then had her studio open by May.

Jenny never really thought that the economy would affect her success.  She knew she had found what she was looking for – the opportunity to be self-employed and still have her children with her and spend quality time with them.

She also wasn’t concerned about the location of Jamestown.  Even though Jamestown’s population is less than 3,300 people (based on the last census data), it was home for Jenny along with her husband and two children.  But not only that, Jamestown is centrally located in the Piedmont Triad with all major cities being less than 20 minutes away – Greensboro, High Point, and Winston Salem.  People gladly drive from anywhere in the Triad to enjoy painting at Wine and Design.

Wine and Design isn’t just for an evening out either.  They host any party you desire – private parties, bridal showers, Girls Night Out, executive team building, children’s parties, summer camp for kids.  (Private parties are required to have a minimum of 10 people.)  And they even take the party on the road.  They have recently been doing a series of classes at Childress Vineyards  where Wine and Design takes all the supplies for the paint party, Childress Winery furnishes the wine and you paint led by your artist while you sip wine.  (Jenny refers to this as “Wine & Design on Wheels.”)

Of course, I can’t help but share my painting experience with you.  The night I was there, we did rainbow trout, but the subject matter varies from class to class and if you are scheduling a private party, you can choose the theme/painting for the night.  Be sure to check out their calendar online so you can reserve your time for the painting class you prefer.

Cheers to Jenny Ragsdale at Wine and Design of the Triad for making her American Dream come true!
